Anger is a useful emotion that has a time and place. But anger can also become a venting crutch to release anxiety about other issues. Have you ever had someone get angry with you, and your response was, “you’re really overreacting”? They might very well be overreacting but not to the situation at hand. The person could actually be releasing all the pent-up suppressed feelings that are creating anxiety. For example, if you are in a bad relationship but never express your true feelings in an effort to keep peace, the inevitable result will be stress and anxiety. At some point, you’ll express those feelings and it could be when someone gives you an opportunity at work or while with friends. It’s a great way to ruin your other relationships while trying to preserve the bad one.
